Service Description

What is Myopia ? Near sightedness (myopia) is when close-up objects look clear but distant objects are blurry. Near sightedness is a common eye focusing disorder thought to be from both environmental and genetic factors. It has been on the rise and is estimated that by 2050, nearly half the people in the world will have near sightedness. Long term risks of myopia Being near sighted increases the risk of certain ocular conditions such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, cataract, myopia related macular problems. Management options Optical corrections/CLs Optical corrections such as Myosmart lenses or Stellest lenses can be used to slow down the progression. Contact lenses that are made specifically for myopia control such as misight can also be helpful. Orthokeratology, also called Ortho-K, can also be used to temporarily correct myopia. These specialized rigid-gas-permeable (RGP) lenses gently reshape the eye while you sleep, temporarily providing you with clear vision the next day. However, these structural changes are temporary, so your eyes will revert if you stop wearing your lenses. Atropine eye drops Low dose Atropine eye drops can be used in different concentrations to help stabilize myopic progression. These prescription drops have been shown to slow the progression of myopia in some children. Environmental changes Many global studies are being conducted on link between myopia and lifestyle. Time spend outdoor getting natural sunlight and time on devices are continuously studied as a possible contributor to myopia. At Boda Family Eyecare, we will discuss your children's patterns for any areas of concern and provide appropriate care.
