Service Description

Comprehensive eye exam vs eye test Many people think that an eye exam is simply to test if your vision has changed. but this isn’t actually the case. A vision test checks your eyes for any changes in vision but does not detect the underlying cause of those vision changes or any eye damage or disease that may be present. An eye exam , on the other hand is a detailed examination of the eye, looking at the structure and health of the eye as well as all aspects of vision via a number of specialised machines or tools . A vision test may be included in a comprehensive eye exam, but in many cases a vision test may lead an optometrist to perform a comprehensive eye exam. At Boda Family Eyecare we provide quality care using most up to date technologies such as OCT to detect various ocular conditions. Optic nerve assessment such as glaucoma Optic nerve is eye nerve that relay light information to brain. Glaucoma is one of the most common optic nerve disease where vision is lost due to damage to optic nerve. Loss of sight is generally gradual and significant amount of vision may be lost before noticing any vision problem. Nerve damage is irreversible and therefore, it is very important to pick up earlier to slow down further damage. Variety of tests such as visual field, optical coherence tomography can be used to diagnose different types of optic nerve damage such as glaucoma and other neurological diseases. Retina/Macular examination Retina is a layer at the back of your eye. It converts light information into electric signals which is sent to brain through optic nerve so we can see the image. In case of retinal/macular damages, this pathway can be disrupted. There are many different conditions that can affect retina which includes: 1)Age related macular degeneration 2)Medications ( Toxicity to optic nerve and retina/macula) 3)General health conditions such as diabetes/High blood pressure 4)Retinal detachment 5)Genetic conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa 6)Retinal choroidal lesions
